If you've come to this page, you're not looking for recommendations, but you obviously agree with me that it's almost as much fun to pan bad movies as to praise good ones. A couple of these titles (e.g., Natural Born Killers) are actually interesting movies from a technical standpoint. But I have a lot of philosophical trouble with them. A couple (like Super Mario Brothers) might have some curiousity value. But the rest I would avoid at all costs. (NOTE: Dates covered are mid-1983 through 1996. I didn't start using stars until late 1989, so ratings for movies older than that have been added after the fact. Also, I did not write as many reviews as Siskel & Ebert. These are definitely NOT the only 1-star movies to come out during this period; they're just the ones I have reviews for.)
ASPEN EXTREME(I considered zero stars, but mountain
scenery is nice)
BIG TOP PEE WEE (his Big Adventure was MUCH
better)
BLAME IT ON THE BELLBOY(also would be zero except
neat scenery is Venice)
CLUB PARADISE (probably the most star-studded
of the one-stars)
CRUSH, THE
CURLY SUE
DIABOLIQUE (I haven't seen the French original,
I am embarrassed to admit)
FALLING IN LOVE (a one-star with Streep and DeNiro
should be impossible, but...)
HEAVENLY KID, THE
JOJO DANCER, YOUR LIFE IS CALLING
LOVE AFFAIR, A (The American original is MUCH,
MUCH better)
NATURAL BORN KILLERS
SLIVER (no, I don't have anything against Sharon
Stone; catch her in The Quick and the
Dead)
STAY TUNED (interesting effects saved it from
zero-land)
STEALING HOME (probably Jody Foster's only bad
movie)
SUPER MARIO BROTHERS
SURRENDER
SYLVESTER
TROOP BEVERLY HILLS (probably should be a zero, but I was feeling generous)
WHOOPEE BOYS, THE
YOR, THE HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE (one of those so-bad-it's-interesting movies)
