Big Island

This set of pages displays photos taken on the Big Island, other than those taken in the area of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, which has its own set of pages. While the Park was the highlight of our time on the island, there were plenty of other neat things to see and do there, and we really enjoyed the uncrowded, rather laid-back atmosphere that is a Big Island hallmark. Also the fact that we were able to completely circumnavigate it, in leisurely fashion, in the three days we had there.

Here are the major areas we visited:

• Hilo area
• North side of the island, as seen while driving from Hilo to Kailua-Kona. The scenic highlight here was Waipio Bay.
• Kailua-Kona area
• South side of the island, as seen while driving from Kailua-Kona back around to Hilo; a scenic highlight of this stretch was the black sand beach at Punalu'u Park
