Summer, 1996, found us bound for Europe. For three of us, it would be our first trip abroad. Henry had lived in Germany as a child, and had a long visit back in 1969. But that was long enough ago that he was as eager as the rest of us to tour the heart of the "old world."
Our itinerary involved visiting German friends, moving on to resorts in southern Germany and Austria, and finishing up with a few magical days in northern Italy. Plus, Henry arranged our flights in such a way that we had a long layover in Paris at the beginning of the trip.
Leaving home on June 10, and returning on July 4, we managed to cram a lot of scenery, adventures, and fabulous food into a relatively short trip.
The pictures on these pages were scanned from the slides we took on the trip, and reduced in size to better fit on the web pages.
I've also included some scanned postcards, ticket stubs, brochures, and other artifacts we saved from the vacation. You might notice on the ticket stubs that the prices are given in francs, marks, schillings, and lire. Our 1996 trip predated the Euro; having to reckon in various currencies adds a bit more adventure to traveling!
The map on the right will show you all the places we visited and where we took the pictures.
