To be exact, a 37th St. Merry Christmas. Pictures taken December 21, 2007 on a walking tour of the 400-500 block of 37th Street, where there is a long tradition of creative, outlandish, etc., yard decorations!
The highlight of the street is, of course, the T-Rex yard! First, with one of the architects and friend, then two shots of it from across the street...
In addition to the big dinosaur and neat light-lines on the house, there was this creatively-decorated tree in the yard (the cans are all Pabst, in case you're interested) ....
The rest of the yards, more or less in the order we saw them....
How about this?! An artistic Astros fan in Austin!
There was a baseball diamond outlined in lights on the lawn, too....
And here's a snapshot of the whole effect.....
This amazing concoction, made with several bicycles.....
And this motorcycle...
This yard had a lovely display that we thought represented a starfield, complete with campfire....
Here's a shot of this one from across the street.....
This was one of the most creative displays....
Here's a close-up of that range....
A cheerily-lit bee ....
This UFO even tried to take off. If you pushed a button on an adjoining object, a fogger started up under the "spaceship," making it look like it was about to lift off....
Brightly-decorated presents....
This was probably the most elaborately decorated yard.....
Here is a close-up of the blue hanging object visible at the right above. It was an acquarium, complete with several fish....
This lovely porch display was accomplished, we think, with lights inside ping-pong balls....
'Lest you forget you're in a college town, here is an appropriately decorated walk....
I thought this was particularly pretty....
Here's a panorama of the street, complete with appreciative traffic....
Finally, there was even musical entertainment. Here's a backyard, shared with another residence, which was responsible for the musical show....
What a great, typically Austin experience! Thanks to all the folks on the block who put in so much work and expense for the enjoyment of all!
Happy Holidays, everyone!
